Face shapes that suit a square frame
Round and oval faces gain definition from a square frame, because the straight lines add structure the face does not have. Heart-shaped faces suit a square frame with a slightly softened corner. If your face is already angular, choose a square frame with a thinner rim or a rounded lens edge so the two shapes do not compete.
Acetate or metal, and lens tints
Acetate square frames are thicker, bolder and come in tortoiseshell, black and translucent colours. Metal square frames are lighter and sharper and suit a minimal look. Grey lenses keep colours true, brown lenses add warmth and contrast, and gradient lenses are lighter at the bottom so you can read a phone or a menu without taking them off.
